Ashes Pasture Nature Reserve, located at the north-eastern tip of Ingleborough, is the largest in a cluster of reserves and features diverse grassland and a rare upland hay meadow habitat. This wildlife-rich area is notable for its nationally rare flower species, including ten types of orchids, such as the small white orchid and heath spotted orchid. The reserve is a vital fragment of the Yorkshire Dales, providing a stunning display of wildflowers and a vibrant ecosystem. For wildlife enthusiasts, April is the prime month to visit, particularly at dusk around 21:00, when you might spot short-eared owls, Eurasian kestrels, and song thrushes. The reserve also offers opportunities to see common quails and white wagtails during this time. As spring transitions into summer, keep an eye out for bumblebees and the narrow mushroom-headed liverwort, with sightings peaking in June.
