Ash Moor is a captivating nature reserve located in Devon, characterized by its diverse habitats of ponds, meadows, and wetlands. Once designated as a burial site during the foot and mouth crisis in 2002, it has since been transformed into a thriving ecosystem under the care of Devon Wildlife Trust. The reserve is a vital area for wildlife and is actively managed to address challenges such as ash dieback, ensuring the preservation of its natural beauty. Visitors to Ash Moor can look forward to spotting a variety of butterflies, with the Meadow Brown and Orange-tip being notable highlights, particularly in August and April, respectively. Birdwatchers may catch a glimpse of the Eurasian Goshawk in October, while the vibrant Fleabane Tortoise Beetle can be seen in May. The best time to visit for peak wildlife activity is around 1:00 AM, especially during the spring months when the reserve comes alive with activity.
