Annet is a closed island in the Isles of Scilly, located about 1km west of St Agnes and Gugh. This fragile seabird and seal sanctuary is designated for its nationally important breeding seabird populations, with around 6,000 pairs from ten species, including Manx shearwaters and puffins. The island's unique habitat, shaped by wind and sea, is also home to the rare shore dock and lichen Rocella fuciformis, making it a vital ecological site. While public access is prohibited to protect its wildlife, visitors can admire Annet from nearby boats. October is the best month for birdwatching, with peak activity occurring at dawn. Look out for species such as the European Pied Flycatcher, Common Reed Warbler, and Red-breasted Flycatcher, all of which are best observed early in the morning. The island also supports a large colony of grey seals, which can be seen year-round, particularly during their pupping season from August to November.
