Annesley Woodhouse Quarry is a remarkable 2.25-hectare site designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) since 1981. This restored quarry features one of the UK's finest remaining areas of unimproved Magnesian Limestone grassland, formed millions of years ago. The habitat supports a diverse range of plant species, including rockrose and various orchids, while also providing a breeding ground for birds such as willow warbler and redpoll. For wildlife enthusiasts, March is the prime month to visit, as many species peak during this time, including the Mallard and several moss species. Observations are best around midnight, making it an ideal time for nocturnal exploration. Additionally, Kestrels can be spotted in February, while other species like the Moorhen are also active during this period, offering a rich experience for visitors.
