Andrew's Wood is a stunning nature reserve located near Modbury in Devon, covering 23.5 hectares of diverse woodland and meadows. Managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust, it is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its ecological significance, particularly for hosting the largest colony of Heath Lobelia in Great Britain. The reserve offers breathtaking views of the South Hams countryside, making it a delightful destination for nature enthusiasts. Visitors to Andrew's Wood can look forward to spotting a variety of wildlife throughout the year. Notable species include the Common Blue Damselfly in May, and the Field Grasshopper and Tortoise Bug, which peak in October. April is particularly vibrant, with several species, such as the Common Flower Bug and various hoverflies, becoming active. For the best chances of sightings, early morning visits around 01:00 are recommended, especially during peak activity months.
