Ancells Farm Nature Reserve, saved from development in the 1980s, features diverse habitats including heathland, bogs, grassland, and rush pasture meadows. This site is notable for its rich variety of flora, such as bog asphodel, meadow thistle, and southern marsh orchid, making it an important ecological area. The reserve is part of a larger landscape managed in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, enhancing its significance for wildlife conservation. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit Ancells Farm from June to September to witness lizards, sundew, and stunning orchids. The reserve is particularly active in February, with sightings of Great Spotted Woodpeckers and Mute Swans peaking at around 1:00 AM. As summer arrives, dragonflies and damselflies become prominent, attracting bats that feed on the abundant flying insects. Keep an eye out for the Eurasian Wryneck in August and enjoy the serene beauty of this vibrant habitat throughout the seasons.
