Allt Rhongyr, located within the Brecon Beacons National Park, offers stunning views of the Tawe Valley and features a rich tapestry of limestone grassland, acidic grassland, and woodland. This diverse habitat is home to an array of flora, including yellow rock rose and bluebells, and is notable for its historical significance as the site of an Iron Age hillfort. The reserve is managed through grazing under an agri-environment scheme, enhancing its ecological value. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year. February is particularly notable for sightings, with common species such as Himalayan Balsam and Hart's-Tongue peaking during this month. Other highlights include the Common Chaffinch and Mallard in January, and the Nuthatch and House Sparrow in July. Early morning visits around 01:00 are recommended for the best chances of observing these birds and plants in their prime.
