Allt Pencnwc is a picturesque nature reserve located in Ystrad Aeron, Ceredigion, featuring a steep, ancient semi-natural woodland that descends to the Afon Gwili. The reserve is characterized by its impressive oak canopy and vibrant spring ground flora, including carpets of Lesser Celandine, Wood Sorrel, and Bluebells. This habitat is vital for various woodland birds, such as Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker. The best time to visit Allt Pencnwc is in April, when bird activity peaks, particularly for Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, and Jackdaw, all of which are most frequently observed around 01:00. As summer approaches, keep an eye out for Song Thrush in June and various flora like Enchanter's-nightshade and Wood Avens in August, adding to the reserve's seasonal charm.
