Allimore Green

UK Wildlife Trusts

Allimore Green is a small yet diverse wet grassland nature reserve in Staffordshire, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Spanning less than 7 acres, it boasts a rich variety of flower-rich grasslands, including marsh marigolds in spring and meadowsweet in summer. The reserve is managed through traditional grazing practices, which help maintain its ecological balance and support a wide range of plant species. For wildlife enthusiasts, early summer is the ideal time to visit Allimore Green, as it showcases a stunning display of purple meadow thistles and a variety of orchids, including common spotted and southern marsh orchids. Keep an eye out for these rare plants, but be prepared for the challenge of distinguishing between hybrids. Remember to keep dogs on a lead, particularly between April and July, to protect nesting birds.
