Aller & Beer Woods is an ancient woodland located along the west-facing slope of Aller Hill, offering stunning views across Aller Moor towards Kings Sedgemoor on the Somerset Levels. The reserve features a diverse mix of Oak and Ash trees, along with Small Leaved Lime, Wych Elm, Hazel, and Hawthorn. It provides a cool refuge for visitors, especially in summer, and is designated as a notable natural area due to its rich biodiversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year. April is particularly vibrant, with sightings of Blackcap and Eristalis pertinax peaking during the early hours. As autumn approaches, Tawny Owls become active at dusk, while winter brings the chance to spot Mute Swans and Starlings. The woods are also home to breeding Green and Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, along with Roe deer and a range of butterflies, making it a rewarding destination for nature lovers.
