Aldred’s Lea is a newly established nature reserve nestled in the Peak District, covering 12 hectares of upland grazing pasture. The landscape features a mix of wetter areas dominated by soft rush, scattered hawthorns, and a mosaic of gorse scrub along the southern edge. This reserve is part of a larger initiative to protect and restore land for wildlife, enhancing biodiversity and creating vital habitats within the Pennine Fringe Living Landscape. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting species such as the Tufted Duck and White-throated Dipper, both peaking in March, with optimal observation times around 01:00 and 12:00 respectively. September is another exciting month for birdwatchers, as the Eurasian Siskin becomes active, particularly around 14:00. The reserve also offers glimpses of the Common Redstart in June at dusk, making it a great time to visit for diverse wildlife experiences.
