Aisholt Wood is an ancient oak woodland located in the picturesque Quantock Hills, characterised by its rich diversity of wildflowers in spring and early summer. The reserve features a stream flowing through the valley bottom and is a prime example of natural woodland development, with a floor thickly carpeted in fallen trees, branches, and twigs. This atmospheric setting provides a mini wilderness experience, showcasing the beauty of a thriving ecosystem. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in February when Palmate Newts and Common Frogs are most active. The wood is also home to Redwings and Fieldfares during winter, while spring brings the delightful calls of Nuthatch and Greater Spotted Woodpecker. For those interested in birdwatching, Buzzards can often be spotted circling overhead, adding to the vibrant wildlife experience throughout the year.
