Addison and Hedgefield is a 14-hectare nature reserve located in Blaydon, Tyne and Wear, England. This diverse habitat features woodland, scrub, and grasslands, making it a vibrant wildlife refuge. The area is particularly noted for its rich array of wildflower species and has been managed by the Durham Wildlife Trust since 2014, showcasing a successful example of nature's reclamation of former industrial land. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with January being the peak month for sightings, particularly around midnight. Look for jackdaws, woodpigeons, and magpies, which are frequently observed during this time. As summer approaches, the reserve also offers opportunities to spot butterflies like the Meadow Brown and the Common Blue, while the autumn months may reveal the Common Darter dragonfly.
