Abram Flash is a vibrant mosaic of mossland, fen, and wetland habitats, located along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. This wildlife-rich reserve connects Wigan Flashes to Lightshaw Meadows and Pennington Flashes, all part of the Wigan Greenheart. While access to the reserve itself is restricted, the towpath offers excellent views of the diverse birdlife and insects that thrive in this area, making it a notable site for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with January being the best month for sightings, particularly for mallards and coots, which peak around midnight. Spring and summer months bring breeding birds like yellow wagtails and reed warblers, while winter attracts migrant waders such as greenshank and dunlin. Early morning visits in June may reward birdwatchers with sightings of willow tits, adding to the rich tapestry of wildlife at Abram Flash.
