Abington Meadows is a 9.6-hectare nature reserve located in Northampton, managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council. This urban reserve features marshy grassland and a variety of semi-natural wetland habitats, including ponds, reedbeds, and mature hedgerows. It is notable for its rich biodiversity, including over 400 recorded invertebrate species and the nationally rare pennyroyal plant. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of bird species, particularly during the winter months. January and February are peak times for sightings, with notable species such as Great Crested Grebe, Eurasian Wigeon, and Goosander best observed at dusk around 17:00. Dawn visits in September may reward early risers with views of Eared Grebe, making Abington Meadows a vibrant spot for birdwatching throughout the year.
