Aberduna Nature Reserve is a captivating 20-hectare site located three miles southwest of Mold, offering breathtaking views of the Alyn valley and the Clwydian Range. The reserve's limestone foundation supports a variety of habitats, including woodland, scrub, bracken, calcareous grassland, and small ponds. This diverse environment is enhanced by active management practices, such as grazing by ponies and sheep, which help maintain the rich wildflower community, making it a vibrant spot for nature enthusiasts. Wildlife highlights at Aberduna include a range of bird species, with peak observations occurring in July. Look out for Rooks and Woodpigeons, which are best seen around 3 PM, while the Common Chiffchaff and Eurasian Bullfinch are most active at dusk. Butterflies such as the Meadow Brown and Speckled Wood also flourish during the summer months, particularly around 1 PM. For a chance to see a variety of species, visiting in July is highly recommended.
