Woodhall Dean is an ancient semi-natural woodland located on the edge of the Lammermuir Hills, primarily dominated by sessile oak. This habitat is a rare remnant of the extensive oak forests that once covered much of southern Scotland, making it a significant ecological site. The reserve offers a tranquil environment for visitors to explore its rich biodiversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting species such as the White-throated Dipper, particularly active in March around 14:00. May is an excellent month for birdwatching, with peak sightings of the Osprey at dusk and the Common Redstart around 14:00. Other notable species include the Treecreeper and Yellowhammer, both peaking in April, while the Swallow and Spotted Flycatcher can be observed in June.
