Whitlaw Wood is a picturesque nature reserve located beside the Slitrig Water, featuring steep slopes covered in native ash, elm, and hazel woodland. This area is rich in ground flora and includes a small meadow adorned with vibrant wildflowers. A path meanders through the meadow, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in this tranquil environment. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in January when activity peaks. Look out for the White-throated Dipper and Tufted Duck, both best observed around midnight. Other notable sightings include the Grey Squirrel in November and the Tawny Owl at dusk in February. The diverse habitats make Whitlaw Wood a rewarding destination for nature lovers throughout the year.
