West Quarry Braes is a significant woodland and scrub habitat nestled within an arable landscape. Characterised by willow and elder scrub, as well as ash and hawthorn trees, this reserve provides a vital breeding ground for various bird species. Its diverse habitats contribute to its ecological importance, making it a noteworthy site for wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors can expect to see a variety of bird species throughout the year, with peak activity occurring in April. Notable sightings include the Corn Bunting, which is best observed around 10:00 in July, and the Woodpigeon peaking in April at 01:00. Other species like the Chaffinch and Great Tit also show increased activity in May, while the Buzzard can be spotted in October. Early mornings and dusk are particularly fruitful times for birdwatching at this reserve.
