Thornton Glen is a steep, narrow gorge featuring a rich broadleaved woodland dominated by ash, elm, and oak trees. The ground flora includes ramson and ferns, creating a diverse habitat for wildlife. A scenic path runs along the edge of the reserve, leading visitors to the historic ruins of Innerwick Castle, making it a captivating destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with notable peaks in January for Rock Pipits, Sanderlings, and Eiders, particularly around 14:00. May brings the best opportunities to spot Gray Partridges and Yellow Wagtails, with sightings peaking around 15:00 and 16:00, respectively. The reserve offers a dynamic experience for birdwatchers, especially during these standout months and times.
