Perceton Wood is a long-established plantation that originated from the nearby Perceton House estate. This reserve features old trees that create crevices for birds and bats, while abundant deadwood supports a variety of insects and fungi. The ground is carpeted with ivy, giving way to a rich natural flora that includes colourful plants, making it a vibrant habitat for wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for notable species such as the Northern Shoveler and Common Greenshank, both best observed at dawn in January and November, respectively. February is an excellent month for spotting Northern Pintails and Northern Lapwings around 10:00. For those interested in insects, the Common Green Grasshopper peaks in August, with sightings best around 01:00. January is the overall best month for wildlife activity, particularly at dawn.
