Milkhall Pond features an old reservoir surrounded by a network of smaller ponds, providing vital habitats for aquatic plants, waterfowl, and breeding amphibians and insects, including dragonflies. The reserve also includes areas of rough grassland, marsh, and a shelterbelt of trees, making it a diverse ecosystem for wildlife enthusiasts to explore. Visitors can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with January being the best month for sightings. Notable species include the Fieldfare and Moorhen, peaking in activity during the early hours, while the Gray Heron and Mute Swan are best observed in the afternoon. Spring brings the Eurasian Kestrel and Reed Bunting, while the Azure Damselfly emerges in June, offering a vibrant display at the pond.
