Knowetop Lochs is a small, diverse upland nature reserve featuring two lochs separated by a ridge of birch woodland. The area is characterized by reed-swamp, bog, and willow scrub, alongside wet and dry heath habitats. Much of the reserve is marshy, with ongoing efforts to convert conifer shelter belts into broadleaved woodland, enhancing its ecological value. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see Canada Geese and Cuckoos peaking in April, particularly around 01:00. November is a great time to spot Bullfinches and Blackbirds, while Red Squirrels are most active in September. For those interested in birdwatching, Wren and Tree Pipit sightings peak in June, making it an ideal month for visits.
