Hare and Dunhog Mosses, located just 2 miles south of Selkirk, features an area of open water that serves as a vital habitat for various wildfowl throughout the year. The reserve is equipped with a hide, allowing visitors to observe the diverse birdlife in a tranquil setting. Birdwatchers can expect to see species such as Little Grebes and Mallards, particularly peaking in February around midnight. Other notable sightings include Carrion Crows and Skylarks in April, along with Moorhens and Tufted Ducks also active during the winter months. For those interested in seasonal visits, the best times for wildlife observation are during the early hours, especially in February.
