Garrion Gill is a small ancient woodland reserve located along the steep banks of the Garrion Burn. Its diverse habitats, created by the woodland canopy and rich soils, support a variety of wildlife, including badgers and roe deer. The reserve is also home to several woodland birds, such as the spotted flycatcher, sparrowhawk, and woodcock, making it a vital area for biodiversity. Visitors can expect to see a range of bird species throughout the year, with peak activity occurring in December around 14:00. Look out for the Eurasian Treecreeper and various tit species, including Coal Tit and Great Tit, which are best observed during this time. January offers sightings of Goldcrest, while March is ideal for spotting Nuthatch. The reserve's rich avian life makes it a rewarding destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
