Carron Dam is a partially drained reservoir featuring a diverse habitat of wetland, rich fen, and deciduous woodland. This area supports specialized plants like gypsywort, remote sedge, and water-plantain, making it one of the largest wetlands in the region. The reserve is also home to water voles and water rails, which can be spotted along the banks, enhancing its ecological significance. For wildlife enthusiasts, Carron Dam offers a variety of birdwatching opportunities, particularly in February when species such as Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, and Goldfinch are most active. Notable sightings peak around midnight, making this a prime time for observing these birds. Additionally, look out for Magpies and Woodpigeons, with their peak activity in September and August, respectively, providing a vibrant experience throughout the year.
