Belmaduthy Dam is a notable example of wet lowland heath and mire mosaic, featuring lime-rich flushes that support a diverse range of plant life, including orchids. Located on the Black Isle, this habitat has become increasingly rare due to agricultural and forestry developments, making the reserve an important area for conservation and biodiversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting Red Squirrels, particularly peaking in March. June is the standout month for insect activity, with several species such as the Bronze Fusehorn and various sawflies observed around 1:00 AM. Additionally, visitors in April may catch a glimpse of the Wood Anemone, while December offers a chance to see Greenfinches.
