Addiewell Bing, located to the north of West Calder, is a transformed former oil-shale bing that now boasts diverse habitats, including woodland, scrub, and flower-rich grassland. This site exemplifies the potential for post-industrial landscapes to evolve into vital wildlife havens, making it an important area for conservation and biodiversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year, with December being the standout month for sightings. Notable species include the Eurasian Tree Sparrow and Tawny Owl, both peaking in December, with the best viewing times around dawn and midnight, respectively. Other highlights include the Carrion x Hooded Crow and Gray Wagtail, which are best observed in March during the afternoon and dusk.
