West Canvey Marshes is a diverse nature reserve located in South Essex, featuring a mix of wet and dry grassland, reed beds, lagoons, saltmarsh, and scrub. As part of the RSPB South Essex Reserves, it is managed to support a variety of wildlife, particularly waders and wildfowl. The reserve offers 6.5 km of visitor access, complete with hedgerows and viewpoints for nature enthusiasts to enjoy the rich biodiversity. Wildlife highlights include a range of species, with peak sightings occurring in various months. February is particularly active for waterfowl, with Greater White-fronted Geese, Teal, Mallards, and Mute Swans best observed around 15:00. In summer, look for Skylarks and Short-eared Owls, while butterflies like the Gatekeeper and Meadow Brown peak in August and July, respectively. Don't miss the chance to spot Avocets in March, with sightings peaking around midnight.
