Trumland is a stunning 433-hectare nature reserve located in Orkney, featuring a diverse mosaic of habitats including blanket bog, wet heath, and rocky outcrops. This area is designated for its ecological significance, providing a vital home for key breeding birds such as Red-throated Divers, Hen Harriers, and Short-eared Owls. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant flora, including Alpine Bearberry and Round-Leaved Wintergreen, while also observing seals along the coast. For wildlife enthusiasts, July is the prime month to visit Trumland, with peak activity occurring around 01:00. Look out for Oystercatchers and Common Gulls, both of which are frequently observed during this time. Additionally, Curlews and Meadow Pipits can be spotted in July, while Black Guillemots are best seen in April. The reserve is a haven for birdwatchers, offering a chance to witness a variety of species thriving in their natural habitats.
