Troup Head is a stunning nature reserve located on Scotland's northeast coast, featuring dramatic cliffs that rise over 90 meters. This area is renowned for being home to Scotland's largest mainland Gannet colony, alongside thousands of Kittiwakes, Guillemots, and Razorbills. The reserve's diverse habitats, including patches of wildflowers, provide essential nesting sites for over 50,000 seabirds each year, while the surrounding waters are frequented by porpoises and dolphins. The best time to visit Troup Head is during the spring and summer months when seabirds return to nest, creating a vibrant spectacle. Notable sightings include the Northern Gannet peaking in May, particularly around 4 PM, and Kittiwakes in April around 1 AM. For those interested in songbirds, the Corn Bunting peaks in July at 11 AM, while the Yellowhammer is best observed in August at dusk. Keep an eye out for cetaceans offshore, as Bottle-nosed Dolphins and porpoises are often spotted in the clear waters.
