The Oa is a stunning RSPB nature reserve located on the southwest peninsula of Islay, Scotland. Characterised by dramatic sea cliffs, open moorland, and freshwater lochs, this reserve features a diverse range of habitats, including coastal grassland and heath. The towering cliffs rise to 202m at Beinn Mhòr, providing breathtaking views and a unique environment for wildlife, particularly important breeding and wintering birds. Visitors can expect to see Golden Eagles year-round, with notable activity during February and early spring when they engage in courtship displays. March is the prime month for birdwatching, particularly at dawn around 09:00, when Red-billed Choughs and Barnacle Geese are most active. Twite can be spotted in significant numbers throughout February, especially around 15:00, while Whinchats and other species peak in the summer months.
