Tetney Marshes is a vital wetland habitat located on the Humber Estuary, featuring a diverse mosaic of sandy beaches, mudflats, lagoons, and salt marsh. This area is particularly significant for its salt marsh, one of the largest remaining on the east coast, and is designated for its ecological importance. The reserve supports a thriving population of Redshanks, with around 70 pairs, and attracts various wintering birds, including Twites and Hen Harriers. Visit Tetney Marshes in autumn and winter to witness impressive flocks of waders and wildfowl, with peak activity in March around midnight. Look for Turnstones, Sanderlings, and Dunlins, as well as the striking Dark-bellied Brent Geese and Curlews during their respective peak months. The reserve is a fantastic spot for birdwatching, especially during the early hours, when many species are most active.
