Strumpshaw Fen

Strumpshaw Fen is a diverse nature reserve located on the River Yare in Norfolk, approximately six miles east of Norwich. Managed by the RSPB, it encompasses a variety of Broadland habitats, including reedbeds, woodlands, and orchid-rich meadows. The reserve is part of the Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve and the Yare Broads and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest, making it a vital area for wildlife conservation. Visitors can look forward to spotting a range of species throughout the year, with peak activity often occurring at dusk. Notable sightings include the Ruff and Bearded Tit, which are best observed in March and February, respectively, around 20:00. Other highlights include the Eurasian Bittern in May and the Western Marsh Harrier in September, both also best seen at dusk. The vibrant Kingfisher can be spotted darting along the waterways, adding to the reserve's charm.
