St Aidan's is a 355-hectare nature park located between Leeds and Castleford in West Yorkshire, England. Once an open cast coal mine, the area has been transformed into a vibrant reserve featuring a variety of habitats, including reedbeds, wetlands, meadows, and woodlands. Managed by the RSPB, St Aidan's opened to the public in 2013 and offers a range of activities such as bird watching, cycling, and walking, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting species like the Glossy Ibis, which peaks in November, and the Little Owl, visible year-round with a peak in August. February is an excellent time to observe the Eurasian Bittern, while the best time for viewing Great Crested Grebes and Tufted Ducks is in September. With peak activity often occurring around midnight, visitors are encouraged to explore the park during various times of the day for the best chance to see its diverse wildlife.
