Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve, located in Nottinghamshire, is a historic landscape renowned for its ancient woodlands and the legendary tale of Robin Hood. Spanning 424.75 hectares, it boasts the highest concentration of ancient trees in Europe, including the iconic Major Oak, which is believed to be over 1,000 years old. This beautiful reserve offers a rich tapestry of habitats, making it a haven for diverse wildlife. Visitors can look out for species such as the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, which peaks in March, best observed at dawn around 9:00 AM. June is an excellent time to spot Grey Squirrels and Muntjac deer, with activity peaking around 1:00 AM. The reserve also hosts unique insects and fungi, providing a fascinating experience for nature enthusiasts throughout the year.
