Saltholme is a vibrant wetland reserve located in the North East of England, known for its diverse habitats including reedbeds, pools, and wet grasslands. This family-friendly site features a Visitor Centre with viewing hides and screens, making it an ideal spot for birdwatching and wildlife discovery. The reserve is home to one of the UK's largest inland breeding colonies of Common Tern and is designated as an important site for wintering wildfowl and waders. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with peak sightings of Greater White-fronted Goose and Barnacle Goose occurring in September. February is notable for Greylag Goose and Mute Swan, while Spoonbill sightings peak in November. For the best experience, visit in the early morning or around midday, particularly in September when activity is at its highest.
