Ramsey Island, located off the coast of St Davids in Pembrokeshire, is a stunning 259-hectare nature reserve owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Known for its dramatic cliffs rising up to 120 metres, the island features diverse habitats including coastal heathland and shallow pools, which support a variety of wildlife. Notably, it is a Special Protection Area for Choughs and provides ideal conditions for breeding seabirds and Grey Seals, which pup on the island's beaches in late summer. Visitors to Ramsey Island can expect to see a range of bird species, particularly in April when activity peaks. Look out for Red-billed Choughs, Rock Pipits, and Rooks, especially at dusk around 17:00. Late summer is also a great time to witness Grey Seals and their pups along the beaches. With its rich biodiversity and breathtaking views across the Irish Sea, Ramsey Island offers a unique experience for wildlife enthusiasts.
