Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve is a tranquil and significant wetland site on the Sussex coast, featuring diverse habitats such as saltmarsh, mudflats, lagoons, reedbeds, farmland, and shingle beach. This internationally important reserve is accessible via trails that lead visitors past the old Sidlesham tramway and to the neighbouring Medmerry reserve. Although the visitor centre is open, the 30-minute loop is currently not wheelchair friendly due to flood damage. Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of species throughout the year, with highlights including the winter spectacle of Dark-bellied Brent Geese and Wigeon at dusk. January is particularly fruitful for sightings, with Whimbrel peaking around 10:00 and Sandwich Terns best observed at dawn. March also brings Grey Plovers and Eurasian Curlews, making it an excellent time for birdwatching. Visitors are encouraged to explore the reserve during these peak times to fully appreciate its rich avian life.
