Oronsay is a unique tidal island nature reserve located off the coast of Colonsay, managed by the RSPB in partnership with Oronsay Estate. This working farm is dedicated to the conservation of Hebridean wildlife, particularly the Corncrake and Chough, with habitat management supported by grazing sheep and Luing cattle. Visitors can explore the island freely, but must adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and be mindful of livestock and wildlife. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in April when activity peaks. Look out for the Red-billed Chough, best observed at dawn, alongside other birds such as the Common Hoopoe and various finches, which are also most active during this time. For the best chances of sightings, visit around 1:00 AM in April, when many species show increased activity.
