Onziebust is a stunning nature reserve located on the island of Egilsay in the Orkney archipelago, featuring a diverse landscape of wildflower meadows, grasslands, and wetlands. This mixed grassland farm is particularly known for its rich biodiversity, including nationally scarce species like the Great Yellow Bumblebee, and serves as a vital habitat for various bird species such as Curlews, Lapwings, and Redshanks. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with June being the best month for activity, particularly around 01:00. Look out for Oystercatchers peaking in May, Wigeons in April, and a range of flowering plants like Cow Parsley and Northern Marsh-orchid. In winter, the eastern coastline attracts flocks of waders and wildfowl, offering spectacular views of swirling flocks against the dramatic backdrop of the island's landscape.
