Northward Hill is a stunning 52.5-hectare nature reserve located on a ridge above the Thames Marshes in Kent. This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and National Nature Reserve (NNR) features diverse habitats, including mixed woodland, wetlands, and grasslands. The reserve is renowned for its large heronry, home to over 200 pairs of Grey Herons and Little Egrets, making it a vital site for bird conservation and a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Visitors can enjoy a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with peak activity in April when Bluebells bloom and birds such as Blackcaps and Nightingales fill the air with song. Notable sightings include butterflies and dragonflies in summer, while winter brings flocks of ducks and the spectacle of Rooks and Jackdaws at dusk. Look out for Water Voles in September and the occasional Western Marsh Harrier in January, making Northward Hill a year-round destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
