North Hill is a stunning maritime heathland located on the coast of Papa Westray in Orkney. This reserve features delicate wildflowers and is characterized by its low-lying cliffs, which are home to nationally important breeding populations of Arctic Terns and Skuas. Notably, it hosts the extremely rare Scottish Primrose, making it one of Orkney's finest natural areas. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit North Hill between April and July to spot various species. April is particularly active, with sightings of Sanderlings and Barnacle Geese peaking around midday. May brings the chance to see Sandwich Terns, while June is ideal for observing Golden Plovers and Great Northern Divers. Keep an eye out for Puffins and Black Guillemots along the coast, and remember to look for the precious blooms of Scottish Primrose during your visit.
