Nigg Bay is a stunning nature reserve located on the north-east coast of the Cromarty Firth, just east of Invergordon. This vast area features mudflats, saltmarsh, and wet grassland, providing a rich habitat for diverse wildlife. The reserve is particularly known for its careful management, which has created an inviting environment for various bird species, including Pintails and Pink-footed Geese, making it a significant site for birdwatching. The best time to visit Nigg Bay is during the winter months, particularly from October when large flocks of Pink-footed Geese and wintering ducks arrive. For optimal wildlife viewing, plan your visit 2-3 hours before or after high tide, when birds are closest to the hide. In April, the reserve comes alive with activity, and dusk is the prime time to spot species such as Yellowhammer, Osprey, and Eurasian Tree Sparrow.
