Nagshead

Nagshead is a woodland reserve located on the western edge of Parkend in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. This RSPB site features over half of its area as 19th-century oak woodland, managed for its conservation and landscape value. It is also designated as a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The reserve is renowned for its diverse birdlife and offers a tranquil escape into nature. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year. January is particularly rewarding, with sightings of Hawfinches, Goshawks, and various woodpeckers peaking around 11:00 AM. Spring brings the vibrant calls of Pied Flycatchers and Wood Warblers, while the carpets of Bluebells add to the visual spectacle. Visit in April for the best chance to see these migratory birds, and keep an eye out for the distinctive flash of Crossbills in the conifers.
