Coed Garth Gell, located in the stunning Mawddach Valley, is an ancient woodland and heathland nature reserve characterized by its rich biodiversity. The reserve features trails that meander through ancient oak trees, known as a Celtic rainforest, which are internationally significant for their rare mosses, liverworts, and lichens. Visitors can also explore remnants of old gold mining activities, adding a historical dimension to the natural beauty of the area. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year, with peak sightings in July when Treecreepers, Little Egrets, and European Pied Flycatchers are most active. Notable observations include Canada Geese in August and Slow-worms in March. The best times to visit vary by species, with early mornings and late afternoons offering prime opportunities for birdwatching and spotting other wildlife.
