Lytchett Fields is a stunning wetland reserve located in Poole Harbour, Dorset, known for its diverse habitats including protected pools, reedbeds, and tidal mudflats. Established in 2013, this site is a haven for wildlife and has been designated for its ecological significance. The landscape is dynamic, influenced by the tidal movements of the harbour, creating a rich feeding ground for various bird species. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of waders and waterfowl throughout the year, with peak sightings in January. Notable species include Spotted Redshank, Greenshank, and Pied Avocet, all best observed around 15:00. Autumn brings Marsh Harriers and Peregrines, while winter may reveal the elusive Water Pipit. With wellies recommended, visitors can enjoy the spectacle of birds in this vibrant habitat.
