Loch of Kinnordy, located just west of Kirriemuir in Angus, Scotland, is a vital wildlife habitat encompassing 85 hectares, including the loch and surrounding fen, swamp, and mire. Recognised as a Ramsar Site, Special Protection Area, and Site of Special Scientific Interest, this nature reserve features a mosaic of open water, reedbed, and marsh scrubland, making it an essential refuge for wetland species amidst agricultural landscapes. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with notable sightings of Red Squirrels peaking in October. Spring is an excellent time to observe Western Marsh Harriers and Water Rails, particularly in April. The loch also attracts significant numbers of migratory birds, including Greylag Geese in December. For the best chances of spotting wildlife, early morning visits around midnight are recommended, especially in October when activity is at its peak.
