Loch na Muilne is a stunning nature reserve located on the Isle of Lewis, featuring a hidden loch surrounded by coastal heath and dramatic views from the viewing cairn. This area is particularly significant for its breeding waders, with up to nine species, including the rare Red-necked Phalarope, nesting on or near the reserve. The landscape is characterized by its exposed Atlantic coastline, making it a unique habitat for various wildlife. Visitors can expect to see a variety of bird species throughout the year, with peak sightings in June, particularly around 01:00. Notable species include Skylarks and Starlings, which are best observed at dusk and during the early hours, respectively. Additionally, the reserve's wetland and heathland come alive with flowers from late spring through summer, providing a vibrant backdrop for wildlife watching, including nesting seabirds along the coastline.
