Leighton Moss is a stunning nature reserve located in Lancashire, England, near Silverdale and Carnforth. It features the largest reedbed in north-west England, providing vital habitats for a diverse range of wildlife. The reserve is part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and holds multiple designations, including Ramsar site, Site of Special Scientific Interest, and Special Protection Area, ensuring its protection and conservation. Visitors can expect to see a variety of bird species, particularly in February when sightings peak. Look for Ring-necked Ducks and Cinnamon Teals around 15:00 and 11:00, respectively. Bearded Tits are best spotted in November, while Eurasian Bitterns peak in March around 16:00. The reserve is also home to Marsh Harriers and Red Deer, making it a year-round destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
